Re: Were repaired airplanes sometimes counted as new realy?
Right now I discovered that I wrote "really" with one "l" in the title. How can this be corrected?

Re: Were repaired airplanes sometimes counted as new realy?
The "8" series numbers were the sequential numbers assigned by RLM to all manufacturer's aircraft (for example: Junkers-85,86,87.88.89,90. or Dornier-17,18,19) which were generally preceded by the RLM company code (example: Junkers-Ju, Dornier-Do). These replaced the manufactures' individual model designations. In some cases (example: Junkers 52) in production prior to RLM organization and well known, the original model number was retained. In third reich usage, this was how almost all major aircraft were identified, but there were many exception for light aircraft and some prototypes (example Junkers EF 61). In some instances, aircraft were identified in the manner, "8-88". As a side note, engines were were identified in the "9" series with a different numbering sequence.

Re: Were repaired airplanes sometimes counted as new realy?
Just a side note, looking at the two RLM document series noted in previous posts, Andrey and I have been working for source material that might indicate inflating late war LW fighter production numbers. On both of these documents the prefix for Focke-Wulff aircraft "8" numbers was "FW", not Fw. Can someone point me to documentation when this change might have been made?
