The meaning of Er in loss reports

Looking through Steenbeck's KG 26 book I notice there are many damaged aircraft listed as 35% Er
20% Er etc

As is so often the case, there is nothing listed in the "Abkürzungen"

Meaning please?

Cheers
Stig

Re: The meaning of Er in loss reports

This indicates, that the units needed Ersatz (Replacement) for the damaged a/c.

Re: The meaning of Er in loss reports

Hello Stig,

Er = Ersatz notwendig or Ersatz erforderlich..
This was an indicator of the need for a replacement aircraft because the aircraft could not be rebuild with troop resources.
Look for GQM loss return 6 Oct 1940 item 5 (RL 2-III/752 page 121 and RL 2-III/1175 page 198): (Er.) = Ersatz notwendig, d. h. Flugzeug kann mit Truppenmitteln nicht wiederhergestellt werden.

Leo
