Help identifying WWII nightfighter aircrews
Bit of a long shot - I am trying to tie-up loose ends from the 456 Sqn RAAF ORB. Several Non-Australian aircrew were posted in, particularly during the early establishment (1941/42), although details are scarce. Many crews went on to other Commonwealth nightfighter squadrons and I have attempted to search these records for clarifications. Am seeking help identifying any of following with full names and/or service numbers, details of service or corrections. Included are approximate dates with 456 Sqn RAAF, known service numbers and other postings.
Thanks in advance for any assistance. regards, Drew Pilots Brown A J Y RNVR - Sept 44, 794 Sqn RN (Feb 45) Bullous F S 342297 - Aug 41, att 68 Sq RAF, 25 Sqn RAF (Sept 41) Cattanach A J F (144295) - Sept 41, att 285 Sqn RAF (Jun 42), 604 Sqn RAF (Jan 45) Kemp G J or J G or F J - possibly Frederick John (101548) - Jun 42 Kerr D (1293581) - Feb 42, 535 Sqn RAF, 285 Sqn RAF (Oct 42), 600 Sqn RAF (Oct 43) Leask G R RCAF (R75155) - Apr 42, 96 Sqn RAF, 409 Sqn RCAF (Apr 43), 410 Sqn RCAF (1945) Mayo - Apr 42 Jenkinson - Apr 42 McGarry F J - 256 Sqn RAF, 456 Sqn RAAF (Jun 41), 256 Sqn RAF (1942), Defiant Flt Nicol W G - Aug 42, 96 Sqn RAF Porter R - Sept 41, 256 Sqn RAF (Oct 42), 287 Sqn RAF Sinclair A R - USMC, Dec 44 Twitt G H - Jun 43 Walker - Jun 41 possibly J T of 256 Sqn RAF (Apr 42) Ward J - Jul 41, att 256 Sqn RAF (Oct 41), 255 Sqn RAF - https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/185903 West H - Jul 41-Jun 42, att 256 Sqn RAF (Oct 41), 34 OTU RAF Air Gunners Clark D J - Sept 41, 256 Sqn RAF (Nov 41), 287 Sqn RAF Craig R - 256 Sqn RAF (Sept-Dec 41), 456 Sqn RAAF, 256 Sqn RAF (Oct 42), 287 Sqn RAF Hancock A R - Sept 41-Jun 42 Woodill RCAF - Sept 41 Nav/Rad Booth-Adams - Apr 42, 51 OTU RAF Burley P B - Jun 42, 34 OTU RAF Cannon F R - 1457 Flt RAF (Jul 42), 51 OTU RAF Chalmers M A - Jun 42, retrained as pilot? possibly 2007235 Drew - Oct 42, apparently posted to 600 Sqn RAF with pilot WS Vale (RAAF) Drury S T RCAF (R135095) - Apr 44, 406 Sqn RCAF (1945) Forbes R J (617174) - Jun 43 Gould J H P USMC - Dec 44 Guest C R (655672) - Dec 44, 25 Sqn RAF (Nov 41), 54 OTU RAF (Oct 43) Menlove G W or probably W J - Apr 42 (RO of M J Gloster) Marsden E C or H C or E G - Aug 42, 255 Sqn RAF Meredith possibly initial A also 535 Sqn and 256 Sqn (Feb 43) Mills R L - Dec 42, 29 Sqn RAF (Nov 42) Milton-Hine S RNVR - Nov 43-Sept 44 Mitchell E W - Mar 42 |

Re: Help identifying WWII nightfighter aircrews
Quick update…
Just noticed a W/O M A Chalmers was Nav/R for W/O H J C Johnson (RAAF) of 89 Sqn RAF in 1945. Team claimed two bombers on 3/4 Mar 45 over CBI. Although not confirmed with name or service number it seems likely it was the same Chalmers listed in the 456 Sqn RAAF ORB during Jun 42. Drew |
