Re: Unknow pilot grave
Hello RT,
Have you any idea as to which country the wreckage was in ? Also would have to bare in mind the possibility of the crash could have happened earlier than the 30th . Having said that the RAF Commands Forum Database gives us the following possible losses for the 30-10-1942. UK 53 OTU Spitfire 1a - AR255 Sgt.I,W, STOREY ( Australian). INDIA 17 Sqdn Hurricane - BN684 Sgt. R,R, SCHWAIGHART (USA). EGYPT 33 Sqdn Hurricane BP130 F/O. L, H, PETERSON (Canadian). NETHERLANDS 105 Sqdn Mosquito - DK316 Sgt. E,L, SIMON.(Pilot). Sgt. T,W, BALMFORTH.(Obs/Nav). Two Airmen are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, they were both crew of Whitley V - BD293 - 10 OTU. Sgt. A, J, N, EDWARDS. F/Sgt. R, J, L, FOURNIER(Canadian). |

Do you remember when the site crashed? The facility to post images was lost in the recovery process and there have been many, many posts about it since. If you want alternatives, see here: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=63061 |

Re: Unknow pilot grave
Sorry I missed this one totally, but any chance of some further info on this one ref the photos?. Was the aircraft totally wrecked or pretty complete, as EV166 was reportedly returned to service post this date. I have Lt J G H Wilmot flying DB-V AK658 (as per P4 Cas file - OPREP has him in EV166).
EV166 as I said is put back into service serving with 4SAAF and suffering an engine failure and force landing in April 1943 and later serving with 73OTU (aircraft noted in logbooks at 3 (ME) ARU Apr 43, 73OTU Mar 44 as well as being rx'd at 73OTU ex BARU 25th Oct 1943), AK658 has no further known service history after Oct 42. |
