This is my list, but unfortunately it hasn't been updated for a few years.
I have no reference to a W-Nr. 4248. And there was no 4200.

The WL-UGUV registration proves that the photo was taken after 1 January 1939, the date of the introduction of the WL- replacing D- on Luftwaffe non-operational aircraft. This system was terminated towards the end of 1939 and reverted to D- only. However, things take time and many aircraft flew with WL-registrations well into 1940. My reference is made to BA/MA RL 2 III/1328.
I can also add that on 3 November 1936 D-UGUV (W.Nr. 4238) was transferred from E-Stelle (See) Travemünde to Junkers, Leipzig for repairs or overhaul.

In the document BA/MA RL 36/294 listing all aircraft on strength by E-Stelle (See) Travemünde on 1 April 1940, Ju 160B-0 W.Nr. 4239 is listed with Kennzeichen D-UFOH and Stammkennzeichen TK+HF, and not TH+HF as mentioned by others. Any comments ?

I checked another source, the book German Secret Flight Test Centres to 1945, where Karl Kössler
actually lists both
TH+HF Ju 160 B-0 WNr 4239 ex D-UFOH
TK+HF Ju 160 and no further data

Seaplanes is correct the Stkz for the T.+H. - series specifically assigned and used by Erpr.Stelle Travemunde was Ju 160 as TK+HF - the TH+HF is therefore a typo. (Note - TH+H. - TI+H. - TK+H. - Initially seems to have started from TH+HI using Heinkel Types. All the rest seems to have been assigned into certain Type clusters also. TJ+HV to HZ (Ju 52/3m); TK+HA/HB (Ju52/3m); TK+HC/HE (Ju87) - The last assigned was the Ju 160 as TK+HF; TK+HG/HM (Bf 108/Bf 109); TK_HN/HQ (FW Types); TK+HR/HU (Foreign Types).

Since Karl Kössler was (as far as I know) very thorough and in this case possibly used preserved
Travemünde listings, it feels likely there is some fault in the original documents he used.

If the index is anything to go by, this is the only time a Ju 160 appears in the book.
Nothing at Rechlin or any other test site.
What did the Ju 160 actually do at these test sites? Was it only a comfortable (and quick way)
to travel to "Berlin" or did they have any other, should we say, more useful purpose?

Did you read my list? The aircraft underwent various tests: Flight performance, flight characteristics, parachutes, photo reconnaissance equipment, installation of the so-called SO 2 and SO 3-equipment: onboard armament and bomb dropping devices. The aircraft was originally planned as an auxiliary bomber and recce aircraft.

This magazine contains the best article about the Ju 160 that I know of - in German.
