Any info on Ju88/188 lost 12/4/44?
Hi- I was wondering if anybody could help me with the identity of a Ju88 or 188 (pilot wasnt sure which) claimed shot down by a 96sqn Mosquito on 12/4/44 between 22.45-23.45, 5 miles from French coast over English channel? If not the exact i.d., could anyone help me with what units would be operating over the UK with either aircraft on this date?
Thanks, Danny |

Re: Any info on Ju88/188 lost 12/4/44?
S/L Parker Rees with F/L Bennett ( Mosquto 96 Sqd. ) claimed a Ju88/188 off the French Coast at 2321 hrs. It is likely they shot down Me 410 A-1 9K+CH of 1/KG51, The pilot Ltn. Helmut Siol was washed ashore in Holland on 14th. June 1944 and Bf Fw.Bernhard Liehr was washed ashore in France.

Re: Any info on Ju88/188 lost 12/4/44?
According to S/L Parker-Rees's log book entry for this date, he and F/L Bennet were scrambled in Mossie 'T' and claimed a Ju.88 10 miles off Le Treport which he's noted was later confirmed on 3 March 1944. They were airborne for 1 hour.
Anyhow, that's straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Stephen |

Quote:
Incidentally, both crew were born in Silesia, although differing eight years in age. Siol was born in Wilhelminenort, today Brzozowiec. Liehr was born in Sadewitz, Kreis Oels, today Oleśnica. |
