Information concerning the loss of Leutnant Helmet Hayner killed 17.06.42

Hi,

I've just bought a portrait of a flier with the inscription on the back:

Ltn. Helmët Hayner killed 17th June 1942.

He was with K.Gr.106?

Could anyone provide more detailed or accurate information?

Thanks

Rick

Re: Information concerning the loss of Leutnant Helmet Hayner killed 17.06.42

Hello Rick,

Lt Helmuth Heiner was with the Küstenfliegergruppe 106 (K.Fl.Gr. 106). The loss on 17 June 1942 is documented in the GQM loss return dated 20 June 1942 item 80. You can find this in the Bundesarchiv invenio files RL 2-III/761 and RL 2-III/1181.
For more details about the loss of the Ju 88 A-4 WNr. 0717 in the area southwest of Ireland look for the website luftwaffe-zur-see.de.

Regards
Leo
