Re: Aces at kursk: The battle for aerial supremacy on the eastern front 1943

I wonder how much research the author has done in Russian archives?

Did the Russians really lose 189 aircraft on day 1 or is that just the German claims?

From the little I have gathered of Russian claims they were far ahead of reality and had very little to do with German actual losses.

If someone buys this book, I would be very interested to know if it lives up to expectations.

Cheers
Stig

It's the day the Luftwaffe claimed the most victories of the War, I don't remember the number but it's around 400 so 189 is definetely not the German claims.

Christopher Lawrence wrote a 1,700 page book on the Battle of Kursk (https://www.amazon.com.au/Kursk-The-.../dp/0971385254), and has spent a tremendous amount of time researching Russian archival material. Here are some of his blog posts related to his research: https://dupuyinstitute.org/2019/07/1...rsk-summation/ This post shows how in-depth the research has been: https://dupuyinstitute.org/2019/06/2...-16-july-1943/
