The seller has FFA 54 as the unit, which may be the case or not, but an Oblt Weber is referenced on the back of the photos. Can anyone read the location given?

Hi Clint

I think so ; we have a "54" on left arm of the crew (1st link)

Hello Bertrand,

Thanks I missed that. Too busy trying to read the back of the card and not paying any attention to the photo!

Has anyone a unit for Patermann? It is not Jasta 4. Was he perhaps with FFA 51 ?

Re: Photo Pfalz E Type

There was a Linus Patermann with Jasta 4 according to the book Jasta Pilots.
He is listed as arriving in 1916 and KIA 12 July 1917

His rank was Vfw which does not fit with the Uffz statement on the photo.
Pity we only get day and month but no year.

I have no idea of course if this is the same Patermann and what he did before going to Jasta 4

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Pfalz E Type

Hi Stig,

Thanks for the reply. I think that the seller also saw the name and looked at Jasta pilots. Could well be the same guy. I'm not seeing the rank as a problem as promotion from Uffz to Vfw between when this photo taken with Pfalz E.I and his death in 1917 likely.

As you know Jasta 4 a western front unit, whereas the sellers other photos are from the eastern front. You've probably also seen http://www.frontflieger.de/3_313844_t.html

It would still be very useful to know what Linus Patermann did before joining Jasta 4 as I suppose we can't rule out E.I 479/15 being with another eastern front unit.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Pfalz E Type

To be honest I have not yet studied the site you refer to.

But I find no problem with FFA 51 using Pfalz fighter in 1915-16. The problem is that the FFA units
are not very well researched and the number of its known pilots are very limited.

Same Guy? Could well be.

Cheers
Stig
