Re: Top Ten Spitfire aces
Good evening Juha,
thanks for the info. Kingaby switched to the Spitfire V afterwards which renders Eric Lock the top Spitfire I ace. Can you tell me if any American pilots ever scored more Spitifre kills than Lance Wade's 10 ? Have a nice evening, Michael |

Re: Top Ten Spitfire aces
Good evening Juha,
Wade served in the RAF. In fact he's the most successful American ace to fly in a foreign service. He had 13 Hurricane kills and 10 Spitfire kills. Kind regards, Michael |

Re: Top Ten Spitfire aces
Good evening,
I think, the Spitfire aces were the most international bunch of them all: SPITFIRE TOP ACES BY NATION (nation/name/Spitfire score) 1. Great Britain: James Johnson 36,92 2. Canada: George Beurling 31,33 3. South Africa: Adolph Malan 29,75 4. Ireland: Brendan Finucane 29 5. New Zealand: Colin Gray 27,2 6. Greece: Ioannis Plagis 16 7. Australia: Paterson Hughes 15,17 8. France: Jean-Francois Demozay 13 9. USA: John Lynch 13 10. Rhodesia (independent from 1965 onwards): William Maguire 12 11. Norway: Svein Heglund 11,33 12. Poland: Eugeniusz Horbaczewski 11 13. Denmark: Kaj Birksted 10,5 14. Czechoslovakia (1918-1992): Otto Smik 9 15. Belgium: Yvan Du Monceau 8 16. Netherlands: Hugh Godefroy 7 17. Soviet Union (1922-1991): Sergey Martynov 6 However, somewhere I read that Hugh Godefroy had the Canadian citizenship. Did he have the Dutch citizenship, too ? Cheers, Michael |
