Re: Brandenburg C.I Photos

Really a nice find!!

If your ID is correct Clint, the date Oct 1917 (well we can dismiss 1911....) is wrong.

Since I also think the digits look more like 269.74 than .14 we thus would have a postwar
production, which fits with the known fact these aircraft served mostly with the Hungarians.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Brandenburg C.I Photos

Hi Stig,

Thanks for the reply. The aircraft is definitely 269.14. The reason I say this being that the 269 series Brandenburg C.I finished at 269.72.Well unless you've read some work I have not.

As regards the year, I think the seller became a little overstimulated by the Red stars. The Bolsheviks didn't stage their coup in Russia until October 1917 (and that is allowing for the Julian calendar system in use there). Also the 269 series were accepted between August and November 1917,so with the October Revolution beginning according to the Gregorian calendar November 7th...

Clint

Re: Brandenburg C.I Photos

I disagree Clint

Check Peter Grosz and what he says on page 286 right hand column.
UFAG continued to build the type after the war ended.
In his book he says 269.77 - 82 were used by the Hungarians.

As I see it, also 269.74 did

Cheers
Stig

Re: Brandenburg C.I Photos

Hi Stig,

Well I wrote a long answer about how Grosz would have mentioned the 'missing' 269 series aircraft 269.73 to 269.76. However, I then did a search, and my apologies it seems you were correct

https://mnl-gov-hu.translate.goog/mn...n&_x_tr_pto=sc

Zoltan Csirok also mentions 269.75 in this more detailed article,so pointing to the existence of the other 'missing ' serials.
