Re: Photo Albums RFC
Hello,
Currently on ebay is a RFC/RAF photo album. The aircraft content is primarily either wrecks or Handley Page O/400. https://www.ebay.com/itm/19673297807...Bk9SR866v4zVZA Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Albums RFC
Never-the-less pretty interesting Clint
Beside the obvious ones, what do you make of the wrecked DH-5 B4943 or 4948? Which one do you prefer? We also have a terribly wrecked aircraft where (if the text is correct) the serial ends with 920 Neither 8920 nor B920 seems OK to me. Any ideas? B Rgds Stig |

Re: Photo Albums RFC
Hi Stig,
Without any certainty whatsoever, particularly given my eyesight I believe that the DH.5 is B4943. I have gone for thiss erial over B4948 as both B4943 and B7792 were with 3 TDS. But could easily be wrong. Doesn't the other photo have B920 on the bottom of the photo,or am I looking at the wrong image? Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Albums RFC
Good point Clint
I agree B4943 is more likely! Indeed it says B.920 in the bottom right corner, but B920 was no DH type as it also seems to say Wish I could say with certainty it was an Avro 504, but I can't. Also I have zero data on that aircraft anyway..... B Rgds Stig |

Re: Photo Albums RFC
Don't want to intrude but the DH5 could be B4920 (with 3TDS) she spun in 9-2-18; batch was B4901--B5000 from March, Jones and Cribb Leeds. They built Camels, DH5s and Snipes but not all completed.
Have a look at the Air History serials. It mentions that the serial was mis-recorded. Regards Nick |

Re: Photo Albums RFC
Always glad to have you 'intrude' Nick. Thanks for the suggestion. Could be we have awinner...
Stig, missed the 'DH' I've gone with the Avro 504 provisionally in my records. But as ever,if the evidence changes...so perhaps inclined to go with Nick now. Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo Albums RFC
Nick is of course entirely correct
In front of 920 there is a straight line which conforms to the digit 4! Since time is always tight, it took a while until I found my crash records for RFC before April 1918 This is what I have 9.2.18 D.H.5 B4920, 3 TDS, Lopcombe Corner Spinning nose dive from 1000ft, Lopcombe Corner 2Lt Arthur Francis Xavier Turnbull (20) killed Thanks Nick B Rgds Stig |
