Good morning Larry,

According to the same unit roster is there any possibility to know the complete name of that Werner G. I cited in other post.
Thanks for your help.

Franck.

Re: Bf 109E, 'Mors-Mors'

Hello guys,

You're welcome Dénes.
Thanks for the info Don! Being on the right side, on the upper pictures, I did bet -against me!!!- that it was on the left side too. And of course, I won my bet!!
Better view perhaps? Uh?
Cheers,
Franck.

Re: Bf 109E, 'Mors-Mors'

Dénes,

I don't think that "Mors-Mors" means a crude expression that you indicated. This is supposed to be an old-fashioned greeting that people from Hamburg use. I believe it starts out as "Hümmel-Hümmel," with the reply "Mors-Mors," or vice-versa. Sometimes you find one part of the greeting on one side of a plane and the second part on the other. I have photos of this traditional greeting on 3 different aircraft, and it usually means that the crew, or an important member of it, comes from Hamburg. The source of this info is Jochen Prien, who lives in Hamburg and ought to know. He's on vacation right now, but will probably confirm this when he returns.

Regards,

Re: Bf 109E, 'Mors-Mors'

Steve,

White 10, W.Nr. 958, an E-3, is Feldw. Frey. The name is in cursive, the rest is typed, so I hope that I interpret the name correctly. Do you have a photo of this one?

White 11, W.Nr. 707, an E-3, is listed as a reserve machine.

Regards,

Re: Bf 109E, 'Mors-Mors'

Hello Larry & Steve,

The infos I got came from a batch of 21 LG 2 pictures, past ebay auction (June 2009).
Following the seller captions here is the list I got.
Uffz. Kurt Gorbing on White 1 or 1?.
(White 1 WNr.660 flown by Hptm. Albrecht von Ankum-Frank. See Falcon site)
Uffz. Werner G. on White 11. (4 pictures including those of a crash)
Uffz. Werner G. on White 13, too. (6 pictures)
From other sources:
White 7, WNr.1398.
White 9 flown by Oblt. Adolf Buhl.

Cheers,
Franck.

Re: Bf 109E, 'Mors-Mors'

Hi Larry and Franck,

Larry, i have Weiss 10+ W.Nr 958 accredited to future ace Lt Friedrich Geisshardt around the French Campaign. I dont appear to have a photograph at hand of this a/c, at this particular time, but i will check!
The pilot you mention who flew Weiss 10+ may have been Fw Hugo Frey,
who incidently had "1 kill " to his credit at this time scored on 4.9.39!

Franck, Oblt Von Ankum Frank's Weiss 1+ was W.Nr 669 and not 660!
And the mysterious Werner G ... may well have been Uffz Werner Gotting who was made POW 7.9.40 flying Weiss 11+

I would welcome further imput on a/c and pilots of 1(J)/LG2.

Best regs,
Steve.

Hello Mr. Prien,
Here is my post#19 extract, in the same thread. Captions for these pictures -most of them and mainly for this White 2 - gave Cambrai-Mont St. Ecouvez, March 1940.

Regards,
Franck.
