Hi Parabellum,

I didn´t note it but now I see it. Strange because the identification of s/n from this new, and my source gives BE684. With other indicia like roundel, field shape it frames the period for summer. Last loss for the 174 Sqn before 30/7 was Sgt Mort already on 2/6 during Circus to Foret d´Eu.

Regards,
Michal

Hi
On the auction lister captions it as
P7606, PR-O or PL-O

29 Aug. Spitfire II P7606 (PK-O) F/Lt B. Mickiewicz (POW) Circus 85. Shot down by a Bf109 over Hazebrouck.

from the excellent website
http://www.polishsquadronsremembered.com/

which has a photo of the other side after recovery in a yard.

Re: Which stories behind these photos?

Not N3277, not flown by P/O Richard Hardy, not downed in 1940, not a Spitfire Ia.

CBAF built Spitfire VB with Rotol propeller, Sky coloured spinner. An entirely different AZ-H. Serial no., anyone?

Yes, you're quite right. I've just reacted on AZ-H Cherbourg without looking through these pictures too much.

This is Spitfire Vb AD203 AZ-H - 234 Sqn, hit by flak near Cherbourg and force-landed at lle Pelee on 20.10.41, According to FCL vol.1 the pilot, Sgt Fox listed as MIA, however, Sgt Peter Hutton Fox no.754399 was captured. Numeral 2, part of RAF serial, is clearly visible on one of the photos just next to the squadron code
