Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
Journal of Combat Operations 234 IAD (TsAMO, F: 368, O. 0006476, D. 0336: L: 16, page 6)
23 February 1944 At 15:30 4 Yak-9 (157 IAP) under command of Hero of the Soviet Union Starshiy Leytenant Mikhail Baranov in the area of Tesnoe conducted an air battle with 30 Ju 87 under cover of 8 Fw 190 at a height of 150 meters. Having broken into pairs, our fighters entered into battle with the Ju 87, but they themselves were attacked by 4 Fw 190. The Fw 190 attacks was repulsed by the pair of Koznacheev. The second four Fw 190 attacked the pair of Koznacheev, but without results. Koznacheev went out with a climb towards the sun and an advantage in altitude of 1000 m. attacked a pair of Fw 190 from behind from a distance of 180 - 150 meters and shooting down the wingman. The wingman of Koznacheev, Brodokiy at a distance of 100-50 meters shot down the wingman of the second pair. In this battle was damaged two of our aircraft. The crews were unharmed. St. Lt. Mikhail Baranov 157 IAP 23 February 44 Ju 87 (14) SW of Lake Svyatoye 23 February 44 Ju 87 (15) Rogachevo (Rahachow, Belarus) (I have no idea if these are confirmed in German losses) Obfw. Heinrich Dittlmann 7/JG 51. Yak-7 (59) 13:48 at PlQu. 94834 at 1100 m. (As stated there were no Soviet losses, only damaged. As Dittlmann died on this mission, this was probably written up by his comrades as a final victory.) Collision in the air, enemy flight, Rogatschew Dittlmann (missing) Fw 190 A-5 (2555) 100 % Objobfw Otto Würfew (Perished as a POW) Fw 190 A-5 (2599) 100% So was these two German losses actually shot down by Koznacheev and Brodokiy (I don’t have their rank and first names) |

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
Quote:
The names are wrongly spelled. It's Str. Lt. Nikolay Fedorovich Kaznacheev, it was his 7+15 claim of a future total of 11+18 claims. His wingman was Lt. Nikolay Arturovich Brodskiy, it was his 4+2 of an eventual 14+2 total claims. As usual, thanks for the info. Paulo |

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
Thanks Paulo for the corrections of the names. That was actually how the report had them spelled but only on occasion find them misspelled in Russian reports.

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
Can anyone verify that Mikhail Baranov’s claims for 2 Ju 87 on the 23 February 1944 match German loss revords.

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)
This German claim is a little more difficult as I have two sources Prien’s JFV 15/I and Tony Woods list for 1944.
Fw Erich Lingnau (TW has Lingenau) Pe-2 (3) 07:05 (TW has 09:03) 25 Ost N/42563 Journal of Combat Operations 221 BAD 01.03.1944 - 31.03.1944 (TsAMO F: 20210, O.: 1 D:43, L: 31 page 13 -17) 29 March 1944 09:52 (M) 5 Pe-2 from 8 GBAP led by Gds St. Lt. Polikanov bombed German artillery in the forest between Aleksandrov and Lisichnik. At 09:56 - 10:03 attacked by German Fw 190s at 1000 m west of Aleksandrov. The Pe-2 of 8 GBAP flown by Guards Leytenant Ilin and crew go down 12 km east of Bykhov. Listed as missing at the time. There is a two hour difference in the Russian and German time zones. Considering the mistake in Lingnau (or Lingenau) name there is another problem. Tony Woods time of 09:03 is far after the bombing raid and the Pe-2 went down, no attacks occurred during that time. That leaves Prien’s time of 07:05, which puts it in the right time zone of the attack but another problem occurs. I believe that the 07:05 was probably meant to be 07:55. So is this a problem at the paper work level? Still Lingnau is the only one claiming at this time of the Pe-2 raid. |
