Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

#994 You are absolutely correct Nick. According to the 2-part history of TGr30 by C.Archambault & J-L.Roba in 'Avions 131 & 132', TGr30 was formed from KGrzbV23 in May 1943 with Stab and four staffeln, but when it moved from the MTO (Practica Di Mare to Kaufbeuren in Allgau) at end of 1943 , the 4/TGr30 was dissolved and absorbed by the other three staffeln. The 'Aero Journal Hors-Serie 48' is devoted to the He111 and authored by C-J.Ehrengardt and on page 112 is a colour profile of 5J+HK (701412) as operated by 3/TGr30 at Zellhausen at end of 1944, so perhaps Pegg's (700328) could actually be 5J+IP of 6/KG4. The 5J or S3 is not distinct whereas the IP is clearly marked
Just a possible explanation?
Regards
Peter

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hello everyone,
I reread all of the threads regarding He 111 H-20, marked 5J+IL, and found abandoned at Schweinfurt. However, I am still uncertain what the consensus is regarding its Werknummer. In my files, I have twelve photos of this aircraft, several of which clearly show that it is Werknummer 700628.
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

#1005 Thanks Steve for this info, so do your copies clearly show 5J+IL or 3S+IL?.
Regards
Peter

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hello Peter,
I should have been clear. Sadly, my photos show the WNr. and +IL, not the Geschwader code.
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

If it's clearly W.Nr. 700628, it is definitely a TGr. 30 machine. According to reports from that Gruppe it suffered 10% damage while taxying at Strasbourg-Entzheim on 6 November 1944. It was reported as one of the unit's aircraft dispersed in Zellhausen on 23 November and was 25% damaged in a crash there on 3 January 1945.

The only reference I have to an S3+IL is for a successful flight to Guernsey on the night of 9/10 December 1944.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Regarding #1001: Is this He 219 W.Nr. documented? According to my books, this W.Nr. is outside the known blocks.
