Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Hi there Gang,

Thanks to Sinisa Sestanovic over on Messerschmitt Bf 109 - years 1935 to 1945 and beyond Group, FB, those two out of the common photos showing a factory fresh Bf 109 G-12 belly-landed, possibly on a frozen Elbe arm during Winter 1944-1945.
https://www.ebay.de/itm/313530612437...QAAOSw-a1gn~49
https://www.ebay.de/itm/313530612634...UAAOSwq~xgn~6J

The camouflage pattern with the tell-tale wide and white only fuselage Balkenkreuz speaks for one of the Bf 109 G-12 produced by Blohm & Voss at their Wenzendorf factory, 30 kilometres south of Hamburg. The lack of tactical marking might indicate a test flight or even a BAL flight abruptly interrupted. I of course stand corrected.

Cheers
Marc

Further to this subject, this former Russian auction possibly showing an Erla built Bf 109 G-10. "Schwarze 18" seems to be from 2./JG 53, the last base for this unit being Linz-Hörsching.

Notice the Russian uniform. With my thanks to Batur Avgan, Late War Bf 109 Group, FB, for sharing.

Cheers

Here are two of the Danzig ones with a bit of adjustment for shadows, highlights and levels. I couldn't do much with the other two.

Thanks ZekhaB for sharing those photos. If not mistaken, they do stem from this source here:
https://afirsov.livejournal.com/5963...CfbdOB1weeh_Lo

The last photo is definitely taken at Fl.Pl. Danzig-Langfuhr as we recognise on the far right WNF built Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. 510 959 "Grüne 4", Stab./JG 51, Danzig Langfuhr, documented on other photos taken 31 March 1945 and published by Christer Bergström and Martin Pegg in Luftwaffe Colours, Jagdwaffe Vol. 5 section 2, 2005, p. 150.

In the centre, behind the Fw 190 F, we have another Bf 109 G-14 W.Nr. 512 174 (?) "Schwarze 2", unit unknown. The camouflage and the position of the W.Nr. are obvious clues for another WNF built plane. Reading of the W.Nr. on another photo published by Christer Bergström and Martin Pegg in 2005, p. 150, is not easy but the digits ..2 174 can be made out.

As for the other machines, both Bf 109 G-14's ("Weisse 3" and "Weisse 6", possibly from I./JG 51), their location is said to be Fl.Pl. Danzig-Olivau according to the original caption from the above link which says the following (Google translated):

"(…) Examination of the results of the attack on the Danzig-Oliva airfield by units 8 of IABKK 18 and 22.3.45.
As a result of a survey of the local population, prisoners of war who worked at the airfield and personal observation with photographs, it was established: a total of 68 aircraft were burned at the Danzig-Oliva airfield and shot at by machine-gun and cannon fire, of which: 1 Yu-52, 1 Xe-111, 1 Yu-88, 43 Me-109, 4 FV-190, 1 FI-156 and 17 single-engine.
According to the data presented to you by the shtakor's operatives No. 77, 81 of 18.03.45 and 22.3.45, as a result of two attacks it appears: 15 aircraft were burned, 19 aircraft were destroyed, 17 aircraft were damaged, 3 aircraft were shot down in an air battle over the airfield.
In total, 54 aircraft were burned, destroyed, damaged and shot down in an air battle over the airfield "[that is, during the survey, more burned aircraft were found than reported]"

Please note also, that the first photo with shows machines precisely recognised and described as being at FL.Pl. Danzig-Langfuhr in Bergström and Pegg 2005, p. 150, is also said to be Danzig-Olivau.

Thanks for your photo enhancement, Nick. It is always appreciated.

Cheers
Marc

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Hi, Marc
I've found the report of 8th IAK on "Pamyat Naroda". The source of https://afirsov.livejournal.com/5963...CfbdOB1weeh_Lo
is the same indeed.

It is 8th IAK report about airstrike on Danzig-Oliva airfield: https://pamyat-naroda.ru/documents/view/?id=133024414
Sorry if repeated.
Good work, Nick!

What is the evidence for this aircraft being identified as a 'Green 4' of Stab/JG 51? Judging by the photos, it may well be a 'Yellow 4' of 3./JG 51

AFAIK the only Fl.Pl in Danzig was Danzig-Langfuhr and considering its location (in Saspe district between Langfuhr and Oliva districts) I tend to think that the Soviet report actually applies to it.

This new sharp photo of a captured JG 53 Bf 109 G-14/AS, taken during Summer 1945. Though unknown, the location might be Neubiberg. Photo from Harold Henderson Earthman Sr., a Democrat Congressman, Summer 1945. Any confirmation or details about this plane ?

Maciej,

Sorry, i missed your post until today... Thanks for the location, all clear now.

As for the "4" color, I jgot it indeed mixed up: Christer Bergström and Martin Pegg, back in 1995, in their Jagdwaffe Volume 5, Section 2, "War in the East", p. 150, published them as "Gelbe 4". My bad.

Sincerely
Marc
