Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hello Rudi,
Thanks for these exciting photographic gems.
The second photo, which I believe was taken at Fliegerhorst Wels, Austria (48.182496 14.039722) features the previously-seen Fieseler-Kassel-built Fw 190 D-9/R5 (WNr. 6013xx). Note its rare 4xETC71 underwing racks.
Behind it is Fw 190 F 15+ - with what looks like an older underwing rocket rail visible.
Truly fine photos Rudi. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hello again everyone,
WNF-built Bf 109 G-6/R2 or G-8 (WNrn. 20xxxx, 230xxx or 710 xxx) marked 1 N5+AH with the 1 in white, is most interesting.
Like other examples I have documented from NAGr.Bromberg, its plane number “1” is derived from the third character of its unit markings, I.e., in N5+AH the A = the 1st letter of the alphabet.
Also, unlike many of its brethren, it sports a tall wooden tail unit, possibly had a production-type Erla-Haub, and what looks like a white outline Hakenkreuz.
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin

Hello all, about half way down the following page, you can see a different photo of the same Fw 199 D-9 and 190 F. The F appears to have standart bomb carriers in this view.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the correction. I was fooled by the wingtip.

I stand corrected.

Hi Guys,

The third picture - just under the P51 - has been taken at Illesheim.
You can recognize in background the well known two tone green camouflaged Gustav for which two colour picture do exist too.
The present picture has been taken from top of a Ju52 just after the Fw190 in the row.
Check your archives ...
...
Providing the dark Gustav has been taken at Illesheim, indeed

Regards,
Franck.

... And the Erg.AGr. machine at Altenstadt-Schongau; thanks to David Weiss.
The clue being the church, indeed.

Franck.

Back on my own comment.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Steve, you are welcome. I wouldn't have been able to find the other photo if it hadn't been for your comment about Wels in post 1161.

Franck, thanks for identifying the Bf 109's location. I am not sure about Illesheim vs. Wels, but Wels would make more sense due to JG 27 and the Luftflotte 4 Fw 190 F?

What about the aircraft sitting on its nose that looks like a Corsair except its canopy (which looks more like a P-51 canopy). Were these photos accidentally mixed with photos taken in Europe?

You are welcome Roger,

Did check with other people and Poruba (?) publication.
Hence, no doubt it's the same place as I demonstrate above and no doubt both actual photos in auction have been taken at Wells.
End of debate for the moment and concerning that dark green camouflaged Gustav.
...
As sequel: I think there was at least two similar camouflaged Gustavs at Wels since two are visible together on a picture; most probably three.

Best regards,
Franck.
