Is there any particular reason you distrust the seller when he says "I can see MA653, PA893 and MB777"?
Perhaps you never scrolled down to see his statement?
It is of course impossible to see for us, so we have to trust him.....

Cheers

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Hi Stig,

you have better eyes then I :-)I didn't register the notes at all......but:

Spitfire MA653 - was in Afrika/MTO - so Italy is very likely
Spitfire MB777 - same like previous
Spitfire PA893 - served just shortly in N Europe and it is strange plane for me:
https://allspitfirepilots.org/aircraft/PA893
https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/50011
https://hewasahero.wordpress.com/201...serial-number/

Most of them are photo machines, but my question is about griffon engine Spit in Italy - which unit or which machine is it,because until recently, I thought they were only used in N Europe.....

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

No, not better eyes Faenor

I was quite surprised myself that the seller actually had tried to investigate his product. Very rare, so quite understandable you missed it!

Checking the aircraft given, yes indeed PA893 seems to be a faulty reading.

When it comes to recce aircraft there is always the possibility of some long range flights, but in this case I also doubt it, so that number is "dodgy"

Can't help you with the Griffon version. Takes too long to go through all RAF units and/or Griffon engined aircraft. I don't have Spitfire versions vs units.

Cheers
Stig

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

One thing that always strikes me is "who is collecting this information?".
We can see from the picture that MA653 was coded C at one point.
Was that previously known? If not, how does it get into the hands of the serious Spitfire researchers?
