Could you tell us why you think that this Hs 129 may have belonged to Fliegerzielgeschwader 3? Is it based on the location or on loss lists? I. and II. Gruppe were disbanded in September 1944. III. Gruppe became 1. - 3./Fliegerzielgruppe IV in June 1944, which itself was disbanded in Feb 1945 at Schongau. Schongau is ca. 300-400km from Frankfurt. Best regards, Roger |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
I have hard time understanding why would a gasoline guzzling Hs 129 be used for target towing? I am curious to see the source of the statement.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello Roger,
Reference your Post #1441, the short answer is, I have no idea! I just copied what I had entered in my database file and regurgitated it. Sadly, I neglected to document my source for that part of my data. One of the reasons I so enjoy posting here is because of the opportunity it presents to learn from others and correct my files. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
By way of a bit of background which might support this, HW5/569 records the ferrying of a number of Hs 129s to Babenhausen in a message d/d 23/8/44 which was almost certainly meant for Fliegerzielgeschwader 3.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello Steve & Steve,
Thank you for your feedback and information about the Fliegerzielgeschwader 3. Babenhausen was very close to Frankfurt (ca. 25-30 km). The I. and II. Gruppe were disbanded in September 1944, but the III. Gruppe was only disbanded in Feb 1945 when it was based at Schongau (according to ww2.dk), which was between Munich and Switzerland and not so close to Frankfurt. Could it be that the HW5/569 record referred to the transfer of I./FZG 3's Hs 129s to another unit at Babenhausen since I./FZG 3 was going to be disbanded in September 1944? Regards, Roger |

Is it different now, after the end of WWII ?

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Probably. It depends on the specific terrain movements due to plate techtonics in the past 70 years. I guess a meter at max. ;-)
