Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello,
Post #1808 and 1810: I believe that Junkers-Bernberg-built Ju 88 G-1 (WNr. 712186) was coded __+OL, was found abandoned at Einsatzhafen I Frankfurt Rhein-Main, Germany (co-ordinates 50.044444 8.590278). I published a color photo of this aircraft in AIRFOIL #1. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin Last edited by S Sheflin; 9th May 2019 at 05:47. Reason: Correction |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hi Jim,
I suspect the nose wheel was removed to help protect the aircraft from theft. It was a valuable aircraft that held great technical interest to people, including Allies who wanted one. At the time, intelligence teams were competing for equipment and although some security was in place, a few examples make me inclined to consider this possibility. Ed |
