Re: Seat Harness
Thanks for all that Adriano, greatly appreciated.
The Harness's I'm looking for (preferably with image of it attached to a pilot) are for P-40, F4F and P-47. There are lots of 'model' pictures, but all are of the belts themselves, not actually fixed into use. I've read that many pilots would just attach a lap belt, so they could move around the cockpit to better keep and eye out. Nothing actual, all antidotal. To me there are a couple of things wrong with that. First off is that the American seat harness is a four point attachment ie over shoulders and across lap, so no single lap belt. Secondly if a pilot tried to maneuver violently in a dogfight with just a lap belt, he's likely to be thrown about the cockpit (sideways) and smack his head on the canopy. Dazing him if nothing more serious. To illustrate what I'm after, here is a link to a photo of the British Sutton harness in use. I'm after similar photo's of the American harness, if they exist. https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...MygWegUIARDjAQ
