Re: Photo Bristol Aircraft
Interesting photo Clint (even if the quality is pretty bad)
Checking "our usual" site very few F2a (could only find two) ended up with the TS/TRS squadrons and both were with No 38TS, including this one. I know extremely little about these units and cannot identify them from any markings visible. However, since the seller's statement seems very detailed, I would say there is a good chance the flipside says the same thing, but is it correct? Cheers Stig |

Re: Photo Bristol Aircraft
Hello Stig,
I too checked the usual site and was tempted to post 38 TS, but as you say the seller does give the unit and the location. Netheravon being the base of 24 TS according to Royal Air Force Training and Support units. Also I note that the usual site does mention an engine fire with 38TS, but not that A3319 was SOC and the dates end in 1917 whereas the seller has c.1918. So not possible to be definite, but as you'll recognise about as full information as we're likely to get at this distance in time. Regards, Clint |

Quote:
You will find a similar "uncropped" photograph in the late Jack Bruce's, Britain's First Warplanes. The photo in Britain's First Warplanes has two additional personalities - one at each end (both excluded)! The photo in B'sFW (p.5), has the following caption: Officers of the Royal Naval Air Service at Hilsea at the time of the Royal Review of the Fleet, July 1914. At left (excluded) is FSL C. Draper; fourth, fifth and sixth from left are, respectively, Cdr. C. R. Sansom, Lt. R. L. G. Marix and Capt. I. T. Courtney RMLI. The aircraft is a Bristol T.B.8, either No. 43 or No. 153. See: Britain's First Warplanes A Pictorial Survey of the First 400 Naval and Military Aircraft. Bruce, J. M. Poole:Arms and Armour Press,1987. p.5 Col. PS. The book contains potted histories of both No. 43, and No. 153. |
