Re: Photo Spad

Hello Stig,

Ihave that batch starting at 4688 my source being Alegi and Varriale Italian Spads at War WDF 155.Since its possible to assign at least one operating unit to most of those serials it seems credible. .

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Spad

Hello Again,

I've just picked up WDF 155. One thing that does strike me as troubling is that some of the aircraft listed as Italian serials in the 53** sequence on P.29 conflict with Caproni Ca.4 serials, so I'fd like to take this opportunity to ask if you know of a source which lists all Caproni serials through Ca.1 to Ca.5?

Regards,

Clint

I know, I only quoted the numbers relevant to the photo itself.

There are many instances if you check all the WDF booklets with listed Italian serial numbers where batches quoted clash. I have no good explanation for that.

Re: Photo Spad

Hi ,

Yes the problems with the clashing WDF serials is what led me to ask if you knew of another reference for the Capronis.Having said that, if the two Caproni Ca.3 at war volumes become available at a normal price, count me in

Clint

Re: Photo Spad

Hello,

Currently on ebay are a number of photos of Spad S.13 at:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Four-WW1-Pi...QAAOSwaZNe7~co

The seller suspects that the aircraft are 95 Aero Squadron, but the text on the rear of the photos is french. One aircraft appears to have the personal name Odette below the cockpit. OK could be a USA pilot with a french girlfriend or then again not.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Spad

I agree 110% Clint

Nothing to do with 95th Aero Sq!
They were known as the 'Kicking Mules' and carried a big emblem with that effect on the fuselage side. Their unit digits were always behind that emblem....
Never come across a single photo showing anything else.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Spad

Hello,

Currently on ebay is a photo of Spad S.VII S 132 Vieux Charles as flown by Guynemer at:

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/LE-PILOTE-GU...8AAOSw1Exe92H3

Is this photo postwar? Most of the people in the photo appear to be civilians.I don't know if the photo has been seen before, but the price requested appears to back the sellers statement that the photo is original.

Also available from the same seller is a photo of Pinsard's S 122 at:

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/PILOTE-PINSA...AAAOSw11Je92DL

and Pinsard and S 112 at:

Clint

Re: Photo Spad

Since Guynemer was killed during the war I would say the original photo was taken during WW 1 and not after.

The seller seems to have a whole range of photos of both Guynemer and other heroes including a number of nice car photos. Asking price seems to be in the range of EUR 300 to 500 so if you and I buy the lot we can both declare us bankrupt post payment....

Cheers
Stig
