1./KüFlGr. 406 Heinkel He 115B-1 (1887). First engaged by F/O D. F. B. Sheen and F/O T. A. F. Elsdon of No.72 Squadron off Spurn Head during sortie to attack convoy off the Humber Estuary. Then attacked by Hurricanes of 'A' Flight, No.46 Squadron and crashed attempting landing in the North Sea off Withernsea 3.15 p.m. Possibly that claimed by P/ O R. P. Plummer, P/O R. M. J. Cowles, and F/Sgt E. Shackley. FF Uffz Günther Pahnke captured slightly wounded in knee, BO Oberlt zur See Albert Peinemann also captured slightly wounded, BF Uffz Hermann Einhaus captured unhurt. Aircraft S4+DH 100% write-off.
The capsized wreck of this aircraft was located at 9.20 a.m.next day 45 miles south-east of Flamborough Head by Do18 M7+ZK of 2./KüFlGr.306 and sunk by machine-gun fire. (KTB via RS) Same source. |

1876 is quoted as both S4+DH and S4+YH in this thread
1887 is quoted as S4+DH, but my notes say S4+EH Can someone please clarify the correct situation? |
