Re: Photos French Aircraft

?????????

Is this e-bay silly week or something?
Below the four Air Aces mags, I have some sport mags, super bowl programs, loads of National Geographics etc, etc but no photos what so ever.

No page two either.....

Seller seems to be some Mook152005 (37 items) and none has any aviation connection what so ever, except the four Air Aces mags.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photos French Aircraft

Hello,

Currently on delcampe is a photo of aircraft of C227, I assume at:

https://www.delcampe.net/fr/collecti...331825941.html

The front row has Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutters in the foreground with some type (s) of Letord in the background the second row is composed of Caudron aircraft.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photos French Aircraft

Tnx for this Clint

Escadrille 227 had 5 Letord in mid-1917 and Sopwith 1A2 early 1917

Could it be A/F of La cheppe (Marne) where 227 was from 1/4/1917 to 4/7/1917 ?

Bertrand

Re: Photos French Aircraft

Hi Bertrand,

Thanks for the response. Interesting information. It sounds like you have a good source to hand.Does it give any information on the serials of the Sopwith 1A2 or Letord with C227?

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photos French Aircraft

Hello,

I have a couple of questions concrning french WW.I aircraft.

1. What is the following aircraft, the fuselage is not unlike that of Letord aircraft, but it has rearwards facing engines:

https://www.delcampe.net/en_GB/colle...377441086.html

2. Can someone please identify the unit markings shown on this Voisin?:

Re: Photos French Aircraft

Hello,

Currently on ebay are a collection of photos and negatives of french aircraft, perhaps the nicest of which is Spad S.VII S.247

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/335370758472...Bk9SR8SP5JLlYw

I know from Albin Denis site that S.247 served at one time with SPA 103. Is anyone aware of other units which flew this machine?

Also is the Morane Saulnier with the unusual wing bracing the Type U?

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photos French Aircraft

Can't help you with the SPAD Clint, but the Morane is the Type AC.

The Type U was never built.

Re: Photos French Aircraft

Thanks Stig,

I was growing increasingly uncertain about the Type U identity anyway. Like yourself no doubt I looked at the Lela volume on Morane Saulnier where it does say under the line drawing precisely that. I may be seeing something that isn't there. I thought that the photo shows a large windscreen immediately behind the machine gun housing, but presumably whatever it is,is behind the plane, not on it.But then would a prototype have has an MG mounted anyway. Nope.

Regards,

Clint
