Re: Harley Vaugh - P-38 - Europe
Good evening Alex,
thanks a lot for the lists. Sears seems to have more kills over Africa than Kinsey. His last five kills were clearly over Tunisia. Ben Gardene is Ben Gardane, right ? ("P-38 Lightning Aes of the ETO/MTO" p22 by John Stanaway indicates that the 12Jan kill of Meldrum Sears was a fighter over Tripoli.) But where is Cape El Fortess ??? Thanks again, Michael See also my P-38 thread: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...ars#post310386 Last edited by knusel; 18th September 2021 at 19:45. |

Re: Harley Vaugh - P-38 - Europe
Is Cape el Fortess, the location of the first claim of Meldrum Sears, the same as Borj El Kastil Fortress?

Re: Harley Vaugh - P-38 - Europe
...I asked Leo Etgen and he sent me an account about 1st FG claiming three three-engined planes "NE of Cap Fortass". However, I cannot find that location on any map either. Therefore, I still have no proof that Meldrum Sears scored his first kill over Tunisia.

Re: Harley Vaugh - P-38 - Europe
Kinsey got all 7 while based in Tunisia.
William Sloan got 12 with 96FS/82FG while based in Tunisia.

Re: Harley Vaugh - P-38 - Europe
Hello drgondog,
yes, Meldrum Sears scored 7 kills while based in Tunisia. By courtesy of Leo Etgen I found out that he also claimed all seven in Tunisian skies. Therefore, I pronounce him the P-38 top scorer above the continent of Africa. William Sloan and Claude Kinsey scored 5 kills above Africa, each. Cheers, Michael |
