Re: Photo Aviatik B.I

This is an Albatros C.1 rather than Aviatik but with early cross; as luck would have it no serial on fuselage. Maybe you know when these C-types were built? I imagine training machines would keep their original markings longer than on operations.

Re: Photo Aviatik B.I

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the photo.Well as you're probably aware the Albatros C.I dates from 1915. The first being C.15/15 although OAW, also part of the Albatros company had built their own different design with earlier serials.

I worry about looking as though I'm nitpicking here, that is not my intenton, just clarity, but if you examine both B.659/14 and the possible B.347/14 it is the very tips of the apex of the triangles which meet. The execution of the cross on the Albatros C.I is subtely different.

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Aviatik B.I

Clint. I suspect the result depended on who was painting it , some made them more elaborate. There are 2 styles on this Albatros; the rules were followed more strictly in WW2 ( but by no means always).
I remember an RAF ground-crew telling how they hand-painted squadron code letters on their Typhoons and they all differed ( partly done to relieve the boredom). Looks like the tail numbers on your Aviatik were done by hand too.

Clint

It is the same aircraft, ie B.661/14
You can faintly see the name Bussard on the photo from rear slightly right side.
The environment is also the same.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Aviatik B.I

Hello Stig,

Thanks for the sharp eyes. I guess I rushed it as both serials do belong to the same batch of Aviatik B.I.

Subsequent edit

B.661/14 in any event a DFW B.II not an Aviatik B.I

Clint

Re: Photo Aviatik B.I

Hello,

Currently on ebay is a photo of an overturned German aircraft which I believe may be an Aviatik P.13 at :

https://www.ebay.com/itm/i109-German...4AAOSw5-hcBDzz

I have may thoughts on what the serial number may be, but I'm wondering how other board users read it?

Clint

Re: Photo Aviatik B.I

Hi Stig,

Well I was going to go B.59, so at least we're in the same ballpark. I believe I've seen B.55/13 and B.62/13 is in Peter M Grosz WDF 102 P.1. So potentially, but not definitely there is a possibility of a batch of P 13. Though it may stretch past B.62/13.

Regards,

Clint
