Re: Luftwaffe KG100 KIA June 18, 1944
Hello Chris Carroll,
Please do find here the relevant combat reports for the 27th June 1944: http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.o...r-reports.html Just digit: 27 June 1944 You will need a more precise information regarding the place of crash, etc...to pin-point the "probable victor". Thank you both Rüdiger and Nick, the information was very helpful. It appears Capt. Fred Christensen of the 62nd Squadron shot Kentner down between Lens and Cambrai per his report enclosed. Dechy is about 5 miles N of this track. Really great information. Link to his report.

Re: Luftwaffe KG100 KIA June 18, 1944
Thank you as well Adriano for the 56th reports. I haven't read the last 4. It still leaves without doubt Capt. Fred Christensen shot down Kentner of JG 5, as all other victories were further south near mission objective.
I created 2 maps on Google earth, 1st showing area where Christensen was engaged, and where Kentner went down. 2nd map shows further south the mission objectives.

Re: Luftwaffe KG100 KIA June 18, 1944
The recommended book "2nd TAC by - Classic Publications" do inform that: "Jagdwaffe losses (for the day) totalled 28 aircraft, 7 Fw 190 and 21 Bf 109. 2nd TAF claims included three Focke-Wulfs and eight Messerschmitts, whilst the American pilots believed that they accounted for six Fw 190 and eight Bf 109s".
We can see that the Allied claims totalled 25 of the 28 Jagdwaffe losses...a fair account. Pilots of 442 Squadron (Spitfires) claimed 4 Messerschmitts around Lisieux (12:35/12:40hs) and 65 Squadron (Mustangs) claimed 2 Bf 109, around Dreux-Alençon (around 16:00hs). The last Bf 109 claim was made by a 332 Squadron pilot, also around Dreux, by 21:05hs. Glad to have helped and happy that you matched the loss X USAAF ace that claimed it. A beautiful piece of History you do have on your hands. It certainly merit a full account (article) isn't it? Humbly yours, Adriano S. Baumgartner |

(1) Rüdiger,
Does Mombeek JG 5 book, mention Kentner at all by name, other than entry for his death June 27th? Does it mention any awards or victories? Thank you.(2) Nick, You mention his plane was #7. Is there by chance, a photo of his plane, or plane from his unit?(3) Adriano, yes a wonderful group. This weekend, I hope to get copies of letters, wehrpass, pilot licenses, etc. from the family. And yes, considering an article to honor Kentner/Kenter. Thank you.(4) This continues to get more confusing, but hopefully someone knows. Rüdiger, Nick, or anyone, is it possible for (2) aircraft have same wkn.???? Matthew Acred an editor of a JG 5 site, notes that Wnr. 110 043 belonged to a different plane. information enclose. Please help if you can. Thanks (5) Maybe why Kenter not showing in German War Graves, this book enclosed shows him missing. It appears to list his unit as 1./ JG 5, instead of 2./ JG 5. (6) Does anyone have a scanned copy of Kenter/Kentner from Mombeck's record they could share here?

Re: Luftwaffe KG100 KIA June 18, 1944
(2) I've no idea. Erik Mombeek's JG 5 history would be a good place to look but I don't have a copy.
(4) Yes, aircraft of different types can have the same Werk Nummer: the Arado 234 B and Ju 87 D both used the 140 XXX series, for example; the Bf 109 G-6 and Fw 190 G-3 both used 160 XXX. (5) The German War Graves database works on names and dates, not units, so I don't think that would be the problem. |

Re: Luftwaffe KG100 KIA June 18, 1944
The only mention of a person named Hermann Kentner is the day of his death.
No mention of any awards or victories in the four books of JG 5 by Mombeek. Regards Rüdiger |
