Re: mystery fw-190

Some further info on that JG 2 bird....

Crashed Enemy Aircraft Report No. 265 Dated 29th January 1945:

Fw 190A-8, Eupen, (9 white), Yellow, white, yellow stripes round tail of fuselage. WNr. 737372, BMW 801, Destroyed

For some time I have thought that this could have been the a/c of Lt. Kurt Starzacher of 3./JG 6 who flew WNr. 737372 and was reported missing on 24.12.1944 near Liege/Luik. However, he flew a Gelbe 5 and the yellow-white-yellow is strange. Lt. Starzacher was found and he is buried at Lommel, but crash location is not known to me.

However, the a/c found near Eupen is of course the A-8 of Uffz. Otto Dost of 1./JG 2 who crashed on 1.1.45 some 1,2 miles east of Eupen. Uffz. Otto Dost flew one of the last remaining A-8's within I. Gruppe. His Kennzeichen was Weisse 9 and WNr. 737371. As the Fw 190 was totally destroyed the RAF people must have made a mistake in correctly writing down the last digit.

Cheers,

John.

Re: mystery fw-190

Thank you very much for that info John, and O.Menu for counting out jg300.
Just goes to show there's still lots we dont know about the Jagdwaffe!
I'd never heard of Jg-2 190s wearing RVT bands until now!
So there is a possiblity that this photo could be of one of those ultra rare Jg-2 190s
