All i can find i in RAF Squadrons by C.G. Jefford, 226 sdn. so far is 18 june 40 to Thursk. 27 june to Sydenham. 27 may 41 to Wattishan.

However that is what all the sources we have consulted states ![]() Funny that when all these books were written that nobody of the authors thought about classifying the squadrons to any Command structure.... Cheers Stig |

Guys
Phil Butler has come to the rescue and says this: No.226 Sdn. came under HQ RAF Northern Ireland (HQ formed 1.8.40 ex 61 Group, which had only formed on 6.7.40). It was an independent HQ reporting directly to the Air Ministry and continued in operation until 1950. The reason for its existence under this title, rather than as a Group, may have been 'political', but I can't immediately find the reasoning. It actually controlled four Squadrons, so was actually smaller than any Group, although there were other units in Northern Ireland reporting to Coastal Command. Conclusion is then that during the period in question 226 Sq did not belong to any of the big Commands at all. Cheers Stig |
