Re: M30 Luftwaffe Survival Drillings

Hello all!

I think I made a mistake: the M30 is indeed a 2X12ga + 1X9.3x74R (hence the "drilling"...otherwise it would have been a "zwilling", I guess!)

Sorry for that,

JV

Re: M30 Luftwaffe Survival Drillings

FYI, those who have problems with the german language:
Drilling in english is triple. It is another term for something in triplicate.

In this case "Drilling" refers to the three barrels. In hunting this gun type is also referred as "Bock-Drilling", indicating you can also use rifle type ammo, as for game like deers, besides the shotgun ammo for birds and boars.

Re: M30 Luftwaffe Survival Drillings

Newbie here. Was searching the 'net for info on the M30 and found this thread. Bob you have an outstanding collection.

I have had one of the LW M30 for many years. Was the most expensive gun bought by me up until last year. A great piece of history and one of the rarest military firearms ever procured for any country.

I understand Jan Still will include a chapter in his revised edition of Axis Pistols. I sent him my serial number. I'm sure you're in contact with him also. Thanks very much for sharing your collection. Remarkable!!

Re: M30 Luftwaffe Survival Drillings

For JVM:
Joe Buffer wrote an article in "Guns ans Ammo" in 1979 showing thses pictures as the all encompassing proof of the use of the Drilling by the Luftwaffe. A number of years ago I received the full set of these pictures reproduced from the original negatives and under close scrutiny the feldwebel is handing down a side by side 12ga not a drilling. This is what makes my search so frusrating!!
Thanks for your input.
