Re: How did NSG 20 find their targets at night?

SES, I'm sure you are right.
And it looks as if the station was MÜNCHHAUSEN at Billerbeck
See attached Google Earth

Re: How did NSG 20 find their targets at night?

The command organisation of the RAF and the GAF differed over Winnekendonk on March 2, 1945 when Roberts would have been supporting Firbank had 609 Squadron been up, and when one of Wolff, Wagner or Eberspächer actually supported Krahl.
The RAF had five reporting levels while the GAF had six that reached down to Regiment/Brigade level, although it reduced to five in April 1945 when 14 Flieger Division came to report directly to Luftwaffe Reich.

Anglo-Canadian
SHAEF (Eisenhower) – BEAF (Leigh-Mallory)
21 Army Group (Montgomery) – 2TAF (Coningham)
1 Canadian Army (Crerar) – 84 Group (Huddlestone)
XXX Corps (Horrocks) – 123 Wing (Baldwin)
3 British Infantry Division (Whistler) – 609 Squadron (Roberts)
9 Brigade (Renny)
2 Lincolns (Firbank)

German
C-in-C West (Rundstedt) – OKL (Ritter von Greim)
Army Group H (Blaskowitz) – Luftflotte Reich (Stumpff)
1FJArmee (Schlemm) – Luftwaffenkommando West (Schmid)
IIFJKorps (Meindl) – 14 Flieger-Division (Heinemann)
8 FJDivision (Wadehn) – Nachtschlachtgruppe 20 (Dahlmann)
FJR22 (von der Tanne) – 1, 2 or 3 Staffel (Wolff, Wagner or Eberspächer)
Kampfgruppe Krahl (Krahl)

There is a question about permanent air-ground affiliation on the German side.
In the Anglo-Canadian case, the only permanent affiliation on March 2 was at Army level - with I Canadian Army permanently affiliated with 84 Group. This was at RAF insistence that units should never be affiliated or even know of each other's identity.

Does anyone know how far down permanent affiliation occurred in the German case on March 2, 1945?

Tony
