Valdemir Vivan Lewis Clarke was on GDB and an Air Gunner in Jan 1941 (so I feel unlikely to be on 501 Sqn unless he re-mustered) must remember the casualty list for that date will include names from other incidents not just for L5183

I see Martin already tracked down Jack Davis -

One down 1 to go

"I was just reviewing all info on 501 Sqn Pilots in Jan to 1940 to June 1940

in hope of (and failing to) ID those old chestnuts "Sgt A A Lewis" Shot Down "June 8th 1940" Hurricane P3347 SD-N" (some info says Killed but no record on CWGC, War Deaths and not in BoFtN) and F/Sgt AD Payne - There was a F/Sgt Payne at 16 Sqn in he 1935 but I can't ID him yet`"

I am now 100% sure "Sgt A A Lewis "is Sgt Arthur Owen Lewis #566649 PoW 1940 so only Payne to go

Re: Bombay L5183 271 Sqn BoFtN 11/5/40

Hello,

You can eliminate the following tail enders from the crew/pax of Bombay L5183:

77688 P/O Valdamir Vivian Lewis CLARKE
640885 AC2 Frank ECCLES
33571 Trevor de Trafford MacDONALD

They were all injured (along with other casualties), when 15 OTU Wellington IA N2901, crashed 2 miles from Axminster, Devon, on 13 May 1940.

See: BCL1(2nd.ed.)/308

Col.
