Re: Hurricane serial number?

Hello,
"A lend-lease Hurricane remains was found in Russia".
How do you know if it was a Lend-Lease Hurricane ?
Does the location exclude say, Finish or Rumanian Air Force Hurricanes ?
Alex

Re: Hurricane serial number?

Alex, This group only recovers aircraft and pilot remains around the Moscow region. No Finns and Rumanians there.

Re: Hurricane serial number?

Nokose,
Did they find the large stainless steel joints which join the fuselage to the engine supports? See picture below. The number is sometimes found there.
Regards
Geoff

Re: Hurricane serial number?

Geoff, The number that is there I was told is a Tech. number and not a serial number. The Hurricane is probably a fighter of the 179 IAP which they have all the losses for 1942 but it appears to have been a forced landing that was stripped down since it came down.

Re: Hurricane serial number?

Nokose, the stainless steel parts of that joint will be full of tech numbers (part numbers and inspection marks) but did they look at the tops of those joints where the vertical steel tube has an aluminium 'plug' in the top end. Sometimes the plugs give the identity, but not always.
Were the inspection marks Hawker, Gloster or CC&F? Knowing that doesn't give you an identity but it does narrow the possibilities a little.

Geoff

Re: Hurricane serial number?

Hello Comrades, watch please photos of this Hurricane.
Place of an emergency landing. Also on our base.
Joint which specified Geoff Rayner earlier is broken - main "schild" [plate] is at the moment not found. We are waiting for when spring comes when snow thaws.
Numbers on the second joint which showed Geoff Rayner. HA431 - inspection marks Hawker? About what these numbers speak?
Somewhere else there can be information numbers? Show on a photo better.
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
Kirill

Re: Hurricane serial number?

Hello Kirill,
Look on the top of the joint (both of them) in your photo number 4. An aluminium 'plug' fills the top of the vertical steel tube. As this is a Hawker built MkII aircraft it is unlikely you will find the identity there, but it is worth looking.
The HA431 inspection stamp tells you nothing about the aircraft's identity. It is just the quality control mark of that particular piece. Do you see HA inspection stamps on other stainless steel joint pieces as well?
Regards
Geoff

Re: Hurricane serial number?

Geoff thanks, on Sunday we will look again.
Then also I will look on inspection stamp. On a detail with number A76753 there is inspection stamp - round (above an arch - ??CO, below a row - 156).
