Attached are two images of the Loon at NASM Udvar-Hazy. Powered by a Ford gasoline engine.

I am not expert on the ramjet testbed, though were
the V-1 engines ever implemented on any of the
American post war era developments . The P-51
pilot may have experienced lots of noise and
vibrations flying with 3 and than two engines
hopefully no flame outs and no stalls .

Researcher

At the time we look at the ramjet engine was a dead end

And if you ask for options, no I don't think I would have liked flying that Mustang. Don't know what ramjets are like today, but back then I don't think anyone liked them.

From memory I think the US made a copy of the V-1 missile and that's it, a dead end. I am pretty certain the Russians tested it, and came up with the same answer.

The faster you go, the better such an engine gets, so I am told, which means a Mustang is pretty useless as such....with a ramjet.....

But my question is not about efficiency or likeabillity, just if the two Mustangs were one and the same

Cheers
Stig

Re: ME-262 & P-51 jets

And the pilot may be sweating if the left ramjet quit!
