Re: Larry Hickey books Publication Date
Hello,
The 22nd Bomb Group history, "Revenge of the Red Raiders" has been printed and will be bound over the next couple of weeks. We expect to receive the book here in Colorado about the 28th of August, with shipping against orders beginning through the end of the month. There are four co-authors, two of which are deceased. Our website update has not been posted to take credit card orders yet, and won't be able to be set up to do so until at least the middle of September, due to one of the key people involved in this being out of the country. The book will retail for US $90.00. Domestic shipping inside the US is + $7.50. The book is very heavy so the most cost effective rate for shipping to Europe is the so-called M-Bag rate of US $13.00. Economy parcel post rates vary with US $29.00 to England and Australia and $23.00 to France and Germany. Surface mail can take up to 6 weeks to arrive. Anyone on this board who wants to obtain an autographed copy (by me) contact me on the Private Message Board. Thanx |

Re: Larry Hickey books
Larry, your m-bag rates are slightly off. Surface M-bag minimum is about $17 and airnail m-bag minimum is about $29. These are valid at least to Finland, Germany and France. Do note that m-bag minimum rate is 11 lbs, i.e. even if the bag weighs less you will have to pay the minimum rated at 11 lbs. And careful packing is necessary as m-bags seem to be handled really rough.

Re: Larry Hickey books
Folks, Larry´s new baby has now been available for some time! It surely is big, as he promised. Larry, could you tell us the exact weight of the book as that would help to evaluate various shipping options?

History of 22nd Bomb Group Published
The long-awaited history of the 22nd Bombardment Group in WWII, Revenge of the Red Raiders, has been published and is now available from International Research and Publishing. It is the second volume in the series "Eagles Over the Pacific" and follows the acclaimed history of the 345th BG - Warpath Across the Pacific. Copies can be ordered directly from the website. http:// www.irandpcorp.com International orders welcome.
Revenge of the Red Raiders is the most thorough account of this important US Army Air Corp bombardment group. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor the 22nd BG was rushed to Australia and went into action over Rabaul in April of 1942 with the B-26 Marauder in a series of daring unescorted raids. In mid-1943, it partially converted to the B-25 Mitchell before changing to the B-24 Liberator during the spring of 1944. The unit was stationed on Okinawa at the end of the war. This is an encyclopedic 624-page history written by Larry Hickey (Warpath Across the Pacific), Walter Gaylor (WWII vet & 22nd BG historian) and Don Evans & Harry Nelson (who served with the 22nd). The authors draw upon all available group and squadron histories, personal diaries & memoirs as well as interviews with over 200 veterans. Translations of Japanese Navy and Army air force records by noted authority Sam Tagaya have been integrated into the history to provide a full account of the 22nd’s combat. The text is complemented by over 1000 photos, many from the personal collections of veterans and never before published. Sixteen detailed maps depict the locations of all missions flown and aircraft losses. Illustrations include a 32-page color section of rare photos, patches, combat paintings by Jack Fellows, and 48 color profiles of 22nd BG planes by Steve Ferguson. Fully-indexed. Copies autographed by Larry Hickey upon request. “This is one of the most comprehensive treatments of a combat air unit ever attempted, and hopefully will be a landmark publication in aviation history. I hope that you enjoy this monumental effort.” Larry Hickey. Last edited by Edward; 19th September 2006 at 22:07. |

I received Revenge of the Red Raiders last week. It is big , thick and on par with Warpath . It has been a long time since it was first announced and well worth the wait.

Red Raiders first look
I received my copy of “Revenge of the Red Raiders” yesterday. The book’s statistics don’t do it justice.
“Red Raiders” is a well-designed book. Nice layout and presentation, well printed. Hefty – very hefty. If Eagle Publications is the gold standard for book design, “Red Raiders” comes close. My first browse shows: Operational history text – arranged chronologically Very nice maps. Lots of photos; lots and lots of photos – a not one of which crosses the book’s binding. Color profiles with an appendix giving the history of the profile subject. Several full page paintings illustrating significant mission events. Original color photographs. List of known aircraft. Compared to this publisher’s earlier “Warpath Across the Pacific”, the photo reproduction is generally better –less “contrasty”. Maps have a more “professional” look - similar information with better presentation. And in general, the printing seems to be higher quality. Not that “Warpath was bad, but it’s almost 20 years old. Tired of more 109/190 books? Try this one – you’ll like it. |
