Re: Robert "Bazi" Weiß
This I feel is a good website, where you will find a lot of information about him, and numerous other Luftwaffe aces as well ... http://www.luftwaffe.cz/weiss.html

Re: Robert "Bazi" Weiß
Thank you, but I actually know this site. I hope some more data will be available sooner or later. :-)

Re: Robert "Bazi" Weiß
Thank you for the remark. However, personally, I am much more interested in pilots' biographies than in their planes. :-)

Re: Robert "Bazi" Weiß
Hi Guy
Stepping on a mine I used just as an example, most unlikely as you say. Though I can think of one guy who survived such an event and returned to combat.......Alfred Grislawski. Maybe Weiß's aircraft was so lightly damaged that it wasn't worth reporting, yet he sustained a reasonably bad wound/injury. Quite often whilst away from the front wounded or just on leave an award is made, and Weiß did receive the DKiG during the break from claiming, which would suggest by the length of this gap that it was more likely a wound/injury than leave. If I say perhaps he was in a car crash, please don't make anything out of it. Perhaps he was injured in a ground attack. Kind Regards Johannes |

Re: Robert "Bazi" Weiß
Thank you very much for your answer. However, I still find it strange why the reason is not indicated anywhere, even though he was out of combat for about two months. After all, it must have been recorded somewhere whether he has hit by ground fire, had an accident, or maybe caught an illness (and, in the latter case, what kind of illness it was). :-)

Re: Robert "Bazi" Weiß
the 'regime' like most of its ilk hid bad news - I read recently that a pilot committed suicide on home leave, but was given full honours and 'died in combat'.

Re: Robert "Bazi" Weiß
Thank you for your answer. That is very sad, but at the same time, it has made me interested. If it's not a secret, could you, please, tell me which pilot did that? (I suppose it was still someone else than Ernst Udet, who also committed suicide and was buried with military honours.)

Re: Robert "Bazi" Weiß
Maybe this time I'll be luckier than before. :-)
I'm reposting my question in the hope that this time I'll find someone who will answer my question. The website about him (http://www.luftwaffe.cz/weiss.html) says: 'Weiss fell ill in May 1943 and was withdrawn from combat until July when he was appointed Staffelkapitän of 3./JG 54.' Do you happen to know what happened to him? It seems that he wasn't wounded, but maybe some of you will have more precise information... |
