Re: Nachtjagd [IV./NJG 5] losses in West of France – Spring of 1943
Hello,
Bodenpersonal casualties on Flugplatz Morlaix, an Obegfr. ill and treated in a Hospital at Rennes...all this confirms the presence of this unit in the West of France at that time. Best regards, Frederic |

Hello SES,
I quote you - "The chance of a nightfighter finding anything at night without help of searchlights or radar ground control..." It seems Brittany was well equiped, no?: http://www.absa3945.com/stations%20r..._bretagne.html Best regards, Frederic |

Re: Nachtjagd [IV./NJG 5] losses in West of France – Spring of 1943
Dear all,
Elements of IV./NJG5 operated under control of the mobile Himmelbett train Sumatra I in Brittanny in the spring of 1943, before moving to the Eastern Front. I will go into detail in this interesting topic in my new series of books. Cheers, Theo |

I hope the books will be getting published very soon! Will they contain details of the numbers of radar on strength and deliveries of new radar to the Nachtjagd forces? If they will include details of the Himmelbett trains on the Eastern front, even better! Regards, Paul |

You're right René, thanks for these additional details.
And Paul -I can confirm that a separate and fully illustrated volume in the new series of books -which will be published by Wing Leader in the UK- is devoted to the Nachtjagd on the Eastern Front, which includes the history of the mobile railway-mounted Himmelbett Nachtjagd. Cheers, Theo |

This explains everything, but it was completely new to me. But these trains cound not perform Himmelbett Verfahren, since they were not equipped with Y-Linien. Please see: http://www.gyges.dk/Ln%20zbV%202.htm and http://www.gyges.dk/Himmelbett.htm bregds SES |

Re: Nachtjagd [IV./NJG 5] losses in West of France – Spring of 1943
Thanks for the pointer Michael -you are of course right, in the context of the Eastern Front Eisenbahn Nachtjagd we should correctly use the term 'Dunkelnachtjagd' instead of Himmelbett NJ.
And Paul -I can't tell you at this point the publication date of the Eastern Front volume & the details of the print run; Wing Leader will no doubt make an announcement on the series shortly. Cheers, Theo |
