Hi Stig. Unfortunately the Maurer books only include "combat" groups / squadrons; they don't include " provisional organisations or with air base, maintenance, supply, medical, TRANSPORT, and other service or support organisations" (his words).

I suppose he had to draw the line somewhere but perhaps partly explains the lack of coverage of these important units elsewhere.

But he includes the Combat Cargo Groups ( in Fifth and Tenth Air Forces) ; evidently Air Transport ( and Air Transport Command) though in combat theatres were viewed differently.................

First, sorry for the delay in responding. I did not think the topic would generate the discussion as much as it did and I learned a few things along the way. I do appreciate all the comments and suggestions and will pass leads on to my friend. Thanks again for helping out.
