With what was going on and that part of France, I don't think the Gernans had time albeit not too far from Oradour

No reprisal action there, Brian,ony a few trucks that came the day after with soldiers, looking for the crew.
As Chris says, they were probably too busy retreating: the local remember many trucks passing by, from South to North.

In this case, what is interesting is the local re use of the aircraft parts in the village : see attachments : respectively wheelbarrow, door of the pigsty and doors of the attic;

Young boys (who are today in the 80's) explain that they took the rubber of the intact fuel tanks to make themselves sandals (they were walking bare feet at that time);

By the way, the 1944 rudder picture, that I showed previously, is the same aircraft.

It seems that its story is getting clarified now.

Seems, Gilles,you are describing the people in the movie "Delivrance",

On 10.th of june, germans are not defeated , people see them fleeing probably later in august,

The nearest I can come up with from Dr. Peter Lieb's book "Konventionaller Krieg oder NS-Weltanschauungskrieg?" is a German action at Mussidan on 11 June which resulted in 62 supposed "terroriists" being shot. However, Mussidan is 75 km from Marmande so there's unlikely to have been any connection with the crash.

I've no idea who Messrs. Smith and Dupont are but "Sühnegeisel" ("atonement hostages") was apparently the German term for those they murdered as a reprisal for resistance actions.

Messrs. Smith and Dupont, are names for the common people , means the Sühnengeiseln, are people they hv found all-around, with no relation with the events, sometimes already jailed people, communists, black-market dealers...

Shot down by the Flak near Marmande, crew escaped by parachute.

Keep healthy !

In my book, the WNr is not 4788, but 4708.
A misprint then crept into the list and WNr 732052 is in fact 723052.

I would also say that someone missed out on the 10 juin 1944 in the book.
It is all due to the layout, where the date is given just once in the left column and if you then fail to see that the new date for some reason has been left out, then the previous listed date remains....

Cheers
Stig

Re: KG100 attack on 9/10 June 1944

Mussidan was an attack on an armoured train containing anti-maquis Panzer Grenadiers. Maquis realised their mistake and retired only for SD to come in from Perigieux after which the mayor, his secretary and 60 others were executed. Those who did it were led by Vichy SD members. Just up the road from my house and a moving memorial
