Fred,

I think you need more help than I could ever provide. Currently I have no idea who may have been in a Hurricane (?) you say crashed at Glabecq (?) on 18 May 1940 (?) All I can say is that it was not P/O Lecky of No. 85 Squadron as was supposed.

According to me P-2701 was flown on may 18 1940 by F/O Allen DH DFC ( KIA )

Hey everybody !
To Peter: my friend found two countrary things:
in Fighter Command losses:
on May 15,1940 with Nr. P 2828 he is SAFE, on May 18, 1940 with Nr. P 2701 he is reported KIA en announced on runnymede panel 05:
AllenDerek Hurlstone D.D.C., 39840, 22 years old, 85 Sqn Hurricane Mk 1P-2701 VY-, shot down at LE CATEAU, KIA, Runnymede panel 05.

Fred,

This should be a separate thread. The Runnymede memorial does record the wrong date of death in this case. It should read 18 May 1940.

Derek Hurlstone Allen DFC is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial where his date of death is recorded as 15 May 1940. He had been reported ‘missing’ by the squadron on that date but returned later.
