Re: Blohm & Voss BV 138 - successful pilots

Hello James,

M-118 went missing after a successful attack on the transport ship Salzburg.
If I haven't missed anything new, the attack by BV138 is only one of the possible reasons for the submarine's sinking.
It is also possible that M-118 was destroyed by depth charges dropped by Romanian gunboats Stihi and Ghigulescu, or by hitting mines.

Best regards,
Andrey

There is no evidence of any aircraft attack that day in german docs. Also attack of gunboats described by german representative onboard as poor and short with no signs of subs being hit. Almost 100% M-118 was sunk by mine. A. Skrobatch tell this long time ago in his article.

What I am saying is Modrow is not listed in the FB copy I have and that he was better known as a night fighter pilot

Good morning Chris,
who of the pilots in your FB flew the most BV 222 missions?
Cheers,
Michael

And as a experienced Lufthansa pilot to deliver mail to South America with Do 18 and Ha 139 in the years 1937 to 1939. Modrow did 25 of those flights between Westafrica and Brazil, started onboard seaplane tenders with steam catapults. He flew the Do 18 A-AANE "Zyklon" and the Ha 139's "Nordmeer" and "Nordstern"

2.Oct.42 mission 05:22-09:34
BV138 7R+GH (FF Deutsch)
U-Boot angegriffen mit 2 Wabo. Ölfleck.

The location is unknown. However, considering that the day before there was a request to Luftwaffe for an anti-submarine search in the area where the Salzburg sank, it is quite possible that the claim is relevant.

The Kriegsmarine docs in 1942 did not reflect the Luftwaffe activity over the Black Sea as fully as in 1943-44.

Best regards,
Andrey
