Re: Nightfighters in Poland

To polish users http://www.lotnictwo.fora.pl/viewtopic.php?t=4874
Topic about Konter's and Fischer's claims on 4/5 th sept '44.

I'll ask one more time. Did Lancasters (not british bombers generally) really fly over Poland? If yes why no Lancasters (only Halifaxes) fragments were found in places which were claimed in Konter report from 5th sept?
Halifax and Lanc are very similar in flight so night fighter could make a mistake, couldn't he?
btw, Do you have any pieces of information about Lancaster's flights over Poland? I mean dates, sqadrons, crews, reports, targets etc?

Re: Nightfighters in Poland

Your right they were often mistaken so I'll se if some real docs can be found.

I think that SOE must have used Lancaster's as they did Halifax's but untill proven you sure have a point there.

Kind regards Nick

Re: Nightfighters in Poland

szukajacy, you can find all Polish crews, who were flying to Warszawa in the book : " Lotnicze Wsparcie Armii Krajowej" Kajetan Bieniecki, wydawnictwo ARCANA.
I couldn't find there a Lancaster. The losses are listed up there, too.

Lancasters were flying to (today) Polish cities like Szczecin (Stettin), for example on 5.01.1944, there were losses in Szczecin area (619, 57, 207 Sqn).

Pozdrawiam

Re: Nightfighters in Poland

Yup, I've heard of Bienieckis book. So there weren't any Lancasters over occupied Poland. Thanks for final explanation.

Pozdrawiam również.
