Hptm. Hartwich's unit, W-Leitstelle 15, was Wetter-Leitstelle 15, and he was very likely its Leiter. It was just being set up at the time under Luftnachrichten-Rgt. 5 in Norway. Its function was to monitor (or intercept) all weather radio broadcasts applying to the Luftwaffe's northern theater of operations, including the British Isles. This information was critical to air mission planning. It also used the name Wetterfunk-Leitstelle d.Lw. 15/N. It was assigned Feldpostnummer L 16378. In mid-1942 its duties were taken over by 9.(Horch-)/Ln.-Rgt. 5. The station's exact location in Norway hasn't been determined, but Stavanger would be a good guess. Ln.-Rgt. 5 had a large radio intercept center at Naerland near Stavanger.

Is this the same individual (Oblt Karl-Heinz Hollborn) who was later St.Kap. Erg.Sta./NJG 1, rank and unit lineage (I./ZG 76 re-designated II./NJG 1 on 07Sep40) would seem to fit.

Yes it is (should be Hollborn-my mistake). He was known as Heinz by his fellow officers
