Re: Luftwaffe DR2 Knemeyer and its use

Hi folks!

Nice collection! I'm still looking for an original DR2. I "just" have a original manual D.(Luft)1255/2a (IV./Kampfgeschwader Gen. Wever 4)

Cheers, Simon

only in higher resolution.

If anybody of you could supply me with high quality pictures of his Knemeyer, I would be very greatful.
It's been a while since your post, but if you're still looking for hi-res photos, I could take some for you. Take your pick of Dreieckrechner . The DR4 in the last photo is not mine. I watched it sell on ebay for 670 euro.

Dan, could you furnish a photo of the reverse side of the 'yellow variant DR3'?

Re: Luftwaffe DR2 Knemeyer and its use

I have no idea if this thread is still active, but for anyone interested, I have written a paper on the Dreieckrechner including all variants that I know of.

The pdf document in its current form (it is updated regularly to include new findings) is 24 pages long and more than 9 MB, so too big to be e-mailed.

I have no site to publish it on the web at this moment but if anyone does, I will be more than glad to make it available.

Ronald

And here is something seldom seen, a Knemeyer manual for the Bulgarian pilots, published in 1940 and stamped "Secret! For service use only!". Of course, it is most likely just a translation of the German manual.

A fascinating thread to an ex Nav. I well remember being instructed on, and using, the Dalton Computor, in fact I think I have one still lurking somewhere in the house.
Note the correct English spelling of the word "computor", which my Microsoft spell checker doesn't like !!!!!

Hi Theodor

Could you please provide better scan of the Dreieckrechner, front and back?

I am interested in the markings and wonder if it is of German origine or that it is a locally produced copy.

Yes, here you are. It is a German original. In total, I have 3 DR, all are German originals. Also have seen 3 or 4 more that belonged to Bulgarian pilots and all were German, too. So far have not seen or heard of a Bulgarian made one. Of course, this does not mean there were no such instruments! Just I have not seen any trace of Bulgarian one so far.

Here are pictures of mine, this will give you some idea about what types of DR were used by Bulgarian pilots. By the way, grandfather had a yellow one during the war, so yellow ones were also to be found here.

First, the one that you asked for:
