Re: New Russian book on air ops during battle of Kursk

Pawel,
Have you had a chance to compare this book with Christer Bergstrom's book for time frame and content yet? Did it just contain the VVS side of the Kursk battle?

Good to hear about this book. Frm my experience Russians have excellent books especially those about the memories of veterans.

Re: New Russian book on air ops during battle of Kursk

I translated several chapters from this book. This is a small part from the book.

In spite of all the difficulties, the actions of the 244 BAD were most successfull. This was "recognized" and the enemy, several times conducted blocking raids on the division airfields. Thus, for instance, the Mozhnyakovka airfield which was based the 449 BAP, it was blocked for three nights in a row by a German twin engine aircraft from the 1-3 August. In this case above the airfield were dropped SAB and "Frog"
mines. On the 3 August the regiment flew over to the new airfield at Viktoropol. However, the enemy did not give the crews of the 449 BAP any rest. The airfield again underwent a blockade for four nights. On the 4 August one of the "Boston's" was damaged and the pilot slightly injured by attack of German night fighters. On the night of the 6 August the parking area and the takeoff runway underwent attacks by Bf 110 from the composition of the IV/NJG5. On approaching for landing one "Boston" was shot down by an attack of one twin engine "Messerschmitt". In this case the pilot and the navigator received serious injuries. As a result of this action on the 8 August the 449 BAP was relocated again to the Mozhnyakovka airfield.
