Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Can someone please put me out of my misery and identify the Battle shown at #4 of Ed's post 2220:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/314041509061...IAAOSwYmhirx7c It's a 142 Sqn machine, as evidenced by the QT- code. The serial looks like L522_ The only aircraft that would seem to fit is L5226 QT-Q, lost on 19 May 1940, but photos I've seen of this look totally different - the aircraft is basically complete, and in a different location. Thanks, Andy |

N1362 might fit the bill. This was lost on the late evening of 11 June 1940, crashing at Orgeres-la-Roche, as per: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C14502515 Does the photo background offer any clues as to whether this might be possible? |

Andy - This looks to me that it can only be L5227 - it still must have carried it's 124 Sqd codes although when lost it was assigned to 12 Sqd on 12th May 1940. I would assume due to the chaotic situation that the German incursion of the 10th May started they had little time to re-paint them. |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Tom,
Thanks, it does indeed look like L5227, I had failed to consider that it may not have been recoded after its transfer from 142 Sqn to 12 Sqn (does anyone know when this was?) It is almost universally reported as being coded PH-J at the time of its loss. The F541 just shows J. Presumably it was actually marked QT-J. Andy |

For what it is worth I still think it looks like L5226 (can't see any trace of a 7 at the end) I have three photos from the internet, all showing the aircraft from the opposite direction. To me someone burned the aircraft much later and with the much higher grass visible, the photo is most likely taken later during the summer.... Cheers Stig |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
Andy, Tom
That Battle wreck is L5323 of 142 Squadron, date of loss not known. The serial in that photo above has been tampered with. L5227 'PH-J' of 12 Sqn. (Sgt. Marland as pilot) was lost on 12 May 1940 during the famous attack on the bridges. L5227 crashed on the bank of the Albert Canal, there are photos of this wreck. Dave Underwood may have more to say on this matter. Both of us have photos of this 'QT' wreck, clearly showing the serial as L5323. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

Re: eBay: Allied intrest
That was interesting Martin
Do you have other photos of L5323 after its crash? What I don't understand, why would anyone be interested in tampering with the photo in question? Cheers Stig |
