Hi Andy and Paul,

Whitley N1362 I have with squadron code KNoB and with info, that dead crew was burried by Le Mans by allied soldiers.
As I know, this planes started from Jersey to raid Turin (Italy).

Does anyone have an ORB of this squadron from this period and can confirm / refute the letter of this machine?

Maybe it is typo in my archive.

Faenor

Re: eBay: Allied intrest

Faenor,
The code is listed as Q in Op Order 96 in the 77 Sqn Appendices (AIR 27/659). This would of course only have been the planned aircraft.
The F541 lists the aircraft lost as N1390 (no code listed), which is not correct (this aircraft survived until 1943 when it was lost with 24 OTU).
It is therefore likely that N1390 was KN-Q. Comparison of the Op Orders in the appendices with the F541 supports this.
Regarding code KN-B, a similar comparison would seem to indicate that this was N1508.
Conducting a similar exercise with N1362 (the lost aircraft) gives KN-K as the likely code.
So in the context of the original photo, the crashed aircraft was not N1362 as I suggested. Further ideas welcome!
Andy

Martin,
Can you please clarify who you think tampered with the photo, and why?

Andy - I don’t think Martin knows who and why - but confirmed on Facebook that another serial - the image matches a known other loss with confirms serial and other photos
