Hello,

Also on ebay today is aphoto of a crash landed Nieuport 17 or perhaps Nieuport 23 at:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/284636255545...EAAOSwt4Zh9~NV

It would appear that the serial number is forward of the aileron but is difficult to read.Has anyone anything further on this machine?

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello,

Currently on ebay is a photo of a Nieuport 11 in German markings at:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/225852253910...4AAOSwe1BlRNvL

While on delcampe there are two Nieuports N5418 and N5775, a Nieuport 24 & a Nieuport 27 respectively, I think

Does anyone recognise the markings on these last two?

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

All sources I have state that A6718 was a Nieuport 17 (not 23)

If you are certain this is a N.23 then it is not A6718.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Nieuport

Thanks Stig,

Same problem om my part as with the Curtiss H-12s the other day.My spreadsheet says Nieuport 17,but I write Nieuport 23 anyway. My only excuse apart frpm age,is I was a bit rushed to post before Leeds kicked off!So back to the football.

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

Leeds United?

Yes they were one of my favorites in the 1970s when Allan Clarke joined the team.

Not much soccer these days, the regular TV rarely shows anything and the pay channels fees are close to blackmail.

Watching a game live, you face the risk of getting your head smashed in these days....

Cheers

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello,

Currently on ebay is a nice photo of Nieuport N.2661

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/256370198519...0AAOSw1dFlnDeD

I'm tempted to go with a Nieuport 23,but I've been wrong before,so can anyone definitively identify the type and also the unit. I take it the sylised 'm' (if that is what it is),is a personal marking.

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

Are you sure it is N2661 Clint?

Not sure myself of course, but the digit 1 seems to be just a little out of phase so could it
actually be N2664?

I'll pass to say if this is a N.23 or not. All I can see from my notes are a lot of N.21 in
"the neighborhood". N2655, N2663, N2667, N2668 were all N.21, but on the other hand
N2651 and N2669 were both N.23.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hi Stig,

Now you mention it,it could and probably does read 2664,but since I 've not seen N2664 either, the other questions still apply.

With regard to serials I thought we were working off the same song sheet so to speak, but having checked airhistory.org.uk/rfc/Nieuport.html I see that is not the case. It has I think 34 of 36 Nieuport with serials N26** as Nieuport 23,hence my 'temptation'. I don't have the machines you mention in the N266* range. So interesting information. What is the source, I'd like to add them to my records?

Regards,

Clint
